Born in Setubal, a suburb of Lisbon, Portugal Miguel Sousa began his music studies in the Academy of Fine Arts Luisa Todi. Between 2006 and 2007, he attended classes with Daniela Ignazzitto. Miguel completed a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Evora University in 2010. Miguel has recently completed a Masters degree in Piano Performance at Central Michigan University, where he was awarded a full graduate assistant scholarship.
In 2009, Miguel gave his first solo recital in Portugal. Since then, he has since given recitals in Sweden, England, Italy, and in the USA. Miguel has a high regard for music education and seeks to connect his audience to the music by speaking directly to them about the pieces he is performing. He hopes to carry this same high regard for music into his work at St. Francis by exploring the spiritual aspects of sacred music with the congregation and choir.
Miguel has worked extensively as an accompanist including coaching beginning vocalist and advanced instrumentalist and has worked with both small and large ensembles. Miguel’s extensive experience as an accompanist makes him uniquely qualified to serve as St. Francis’ music director.
